Officials must find a better way to resolve mental health issues on bridges. One must consider the hundreds who were held hostage while officials attempted to resolve one person’s issue. Consider the issues of those held hostage against the person with the mental health crisis. Is there no way to safely open one lane? Is there no way to safely incapacitate the person in crisis? This should not be allowed to happen again.Linda QuickWalnut CreekNative landscapescan help pollinatorsAnyone with a bit of lawn or garden can help restore plummeting numbers of birds and butterflies by planting native plants. It’s a fun neighborhood project: Work with friends and neighb...

We spend enough money to bury every hungry child under a mountain of caviar without any effect on poverty.Politicians have no interest in correcting the government leaky bucket syndrome.San Francisco is full of homeless people camping on streets alongside empty hotel rooms. They attract the indigent with welfare and repel business and tourism due to taxation, crime and over-regulation. Still, I can’t leave the house without a little bit of mascara, or concealer, maybe a touch of blush. When picking my shade at beauty stores, I’ll spend a good 15 minutes analyzing which concealer or foundation shade correctly matches my olive skin out of the 20 nude shades, not even considering the five darker shades that I’ll never have to use. However, the person with the darker skin tone will spend at most five minutes before they realize that there is no shade for them. Sometimes the shades they do match with don’t match the consistency they’re looking for, but it’s their only option. The beauty industry still fails to recognize that their consumers don’...
