(NerdWallet) - Paying bills and job hunting in this economy are hard for anyone. Wounded veterans, often facing ongoing physical and mental health issues, have it even worse.More wounded vets than before reported not having enough cash to make ends meet, a recent survey found. Sixty-four percent of those surveyed — or 6 in 10 vets — said they didn't have enough money to pay bills at least once in the past 12 months, a jump from 42% the previous year, according to the Annual Warrior Survey released this year by the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit veterans service organization."We're getting more feedback from 'warriors' that they're having a harder and harder time meeting their financial obligations on a regular basis," says Tom Kastner, vice president of financial wellness at the Wounded Warrior Project.Wounded vets are feeling the pinch of inflation like everyone else. The cost of everyday goods like food was the main reported cause of financial strain. That's on top of a stru...

Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) reportedly expressed confusion last year when Vice President Kamala Harris was presiding over the Senate to cast a tie-breaking vote, according to a new report detailing the difficulties the ailing lawmaker faces as she continues her work in the Senate. The new report from The New York Times outlines the many functions Feinstein’s staff play and the struggles the longtime senator faces as she returns to work after bouts of shingles and encephalitis earlier this year. The latest example, however, reportedly took place last year and illustrates the difficulty Feinstein has had recalling, at times, the basics of how the Senate operates. According to the new report, Feinstein expressed confusion to her colleagues, when she saw Harris presiding over the chamber, in one of many tiebreaking votes the vice president has had to cast. “What is she doing here?” Feinstein asked, according to the report. Food delivery fees add up. Who keeps the money from all those surcharges?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 11:31:46 GMT

(NEXSTAR) – We've all been there. There's nothing in the fridge and you don't have time to run out, so you open up a delivery app to order lunch. But by the time you go to check out, pay all the fees, and tip your driver, your $11 burrito has turned into a $19 splurge. The jump in price is thanks to lots of little fees – a couple of bucks here, a few percentage points there – that add up by the time the food arrives at your doorstep. Where does all that extra money go? Uber Eats and DoorDash break down the line item charges on their websites. Grubhub also charges similar fees but doesn't list them in detail. The first two charges you'll see listed frequently on all three apps are "delivery fee" and "service fee." The delivery fee, to state the obvious, goes toward helping cover the cost of the delivery, the companies told Nexstar. The delivery fee can fluctuate based on demand, your location, how many delivery drivers are available, and other factors. The 100 best burger spo...

This is remarkable because no act had presented music like this before.Put simply, “(I’m) stranded” is a blistering album where every instrument sounds like it is in a race with the others to the finish. The music has potent urgency not found in any other record on earth. That the album still sounds fresh and timeless is a testament to what a once in a lifetime freak of an album it really is.(I’m) Stranded is a rampaging sound of desperation, alienation and unwavering focus. It became a blueprint and inspiration for modern day punk sounds. Even arguably more so than even the debut LP by the Ramones. This album is the re-set button for Rock And Roll music, that had mov...
